I'm working on a project that needs to use low voltage bulbs, something
like 12 volts.

But, the light bulbs need to look close to standard incandescent bulbs,
in shape and size.

Does anything like that exist?

If not, any ideas on making bulbs?

Also, something besides glass would be preferred if possible, because
kids...

How about 3D printing a normal bulb shaped envelope using some translucent filament, then put an LED or 12V lamp inside it?

Another idea is to modify edison-base LED candelabra bulbs that have the fancy prism in to look like conventional incandescent from a distance.  Even though they run on 120VAC, the usually have a buck regulator in and the LEDs run at a lower voltage.  The only problem is that if there is no easy way to re-configure the LED array (usually several in series), you are still stuck with an operating voltage that may be well above 12V.
