Someone I work with made this digital TV antenna and had decent luck with it.
I'd like to make one myself.  I have an old analog TV, does anyone know if this would work through an analog converter?  Or are there better antenna plans to build?  Anyone make something like this?
Thanks;
James

James my parents have made multiple of these in time out and they have had a lot of a really good luck with them they have even given them as Christmas and holiday presents so they work really well and relatively compact they way out perform anything that they bought at the store.

This is looking more and more like a worthwhile project!
It occurred to me I should make one for my Dad while I'm at it.  He can't afford cable and the reception in his trailer court is poor for "rabbit ears).  I bet this would do it.
First thing I need is 204" of 12 gage copper wire.  Anyone know a good place to get that (cheap)?  My friend took insulated wire and stripped the insulation off.  Which I'm fully prepared to do, but if I can avoid that step without too much hassle/expense, even better.

Just wanted to make a couple quick notes.

I've seen these referenced as "DB-4" antennas, and you can keep going with the array if need be, for example: https://www.antennasdirect.com/antenna-assembly.html

There's also some interesting technical information in this thread: http://www.avsforum.com/forum/25-hdtv-technical/798265-how-build-uhf-antenna-151.html

A few years back, we made some antennas as a Cub Scout Pack project using the Gray-Hoverman open source design:
http://www.digitalhome.ca/ota/superantenna/design.htm

I pre-cut the wood and pre-bent the antenna elements for the boys, and they each went home with one.  I think they work pretty well.

For the antenna elements, I used galvanized electric fence wire, stretched straight using a 2x6 with a ring on one end and a 12v winch on the other.  [might be worth noting, I have one of these with galvanized elements mounted outdoors on the side of a metal building with the building spaced at the prescribed distance for the reflector, and it works great]

For the project with the scouts, we attached the antenna elements to 1x4 pine, and the base was something like 10x10x1 pine with feet and a beam clamp to attach the vertical 1x4 to the base, so it could be rotated relative to the base.

Pic's attached of the completed scout antennas, paper plate sketch (high tech drawing done at Conejitos), antenna elements made from template (alongside elements that I mistakenly thought the other parents could help make :-P ), and a nicer build that a friend and his son made from the same design for outdoor mounting with a wire mesh reflector (rural setting, outdoor mount, and reportedly works great too).
