Reg. PPI points alteration via UI

Hi,
   We have a specific requirement where before disbursing loan to a group, the group is evaluated based on asking certain question to the client and evaluating the answers and rating the client based on them. I believe this is what PPI does. So we need to know the scoring system in PPI , how to change the ratings via UI(the client requires it configurable), adding few questions in the feature. Is it possible. Can any one shed some light on this ???

But i have the MIFOS BI tool up and running. But i could not find any PPI tool in it. Kindly help as soon as possible.

it has been mentioned that i can edit ppi scores as well. But in MIFOS 2.2.2 there is no such option. Kindly help !

My apologies you've still been waiting on a reply.  Let me provide you some clarity on the PPI itself and then try to point you in the right direction.  The PPI is social performance management metric that is based on 10 question scorecard specific to each country. The indicators chosen, along with the scores and weights assigned are based on a very deep statistical analysis of the of the hundreds of indicators from each country's national household survey to see which are the most significant indicators of poverty.  That being said, the scoring mechanism for these surveys should not be modified and hence there's no functionality through the UI to do so.

You should however be able to create a new question group and create your own set of indicators along with scoring system based on the MFIs needs. I believe the spec you found is pointing you in the direction but will let other more technical users instruct you on how you can on the backend provide build in scoring. I'm not sure of the feasibility of this or the level of effort

Kay/Tejus - how would Karthik go about using Question Groups to build his own scoring survey? Is this feasible?

To activate PPI Question Groups in Mifos you must first upload the XML surveys. See: http://mifos.org/product/download-mifos/ppi-question-groups

Thanks for the response Ed. But i did start implementing the feature. For doing so i added few fields in the database, edited some ftl and business classes as well. But now i am in a fix. If i implement my own changes, there would be discrepancies between mifos next version of code and mine. So i would like to implement the feature in such a way that it will be source code updatable. Can any one guide me ?

Hi,

As Ed said, PPI is specific 10 questions defined by PPI group, and if
your specific questions are not same as PPI then the Mifos BI PPI tool
is not going to help your case.

You can create your questions (group) and then assign it to the
client, Mifos will collect the responses for those questions.

You don't need to change any Mifos code, and I would advice strongly
against it as you already understand the problems related upgrades.

You just need a report which will calculate and show the result in
desired format based on the responses collected by Mifos.

You can create a BIRT report or Pentaho Report.

The logic to change the score and showing the results can be done in
both Mifos BIRT module or Mifos BI.

There are many other things you can do to improve performance of this
specific report, like caching the calculation result, creating ETL job
etc.

Thanks for the reply Udai. Given i follow your approach, how to assign marks for the question and its options ?. The client needs it configurable. Any inputs?

Create a simple table which maintains question_id and score
XYZMFI_question_score (so that name doesn't collide with any mifos
table even in future).

Create a report which will take parameters as score (input field) and
show question text from question group table in your parameter window.
this report can will execute and update query instead of select and
say that the scores has been updated while also displaying the updated
scores.

Other report will use these score table to calculate result.

Thanks for the Info Udai. In this approach, i need to create the databases and develop the above said reports correct?. By doing so can i accomplish the required functionality or do i need to edit MIFOS BI Source. I want to confirm this because before implementing this functionality we must ensure that there are no repercussions.

You don't need database, create one table with a name that won't
collide with Mifos table names.

No, you don't need to edit Mifos BI source code. You are have to
create reports for either BIRT or Pentaho.

I don't think there is any repercussions.
