I have Windows XP Home Edition. Earlier (about a year
ago) I had no trouble accessing Windows Update. Now, I
see this message: "Windows Update has encountered an
error and cannot display the requested page." Please
help me. Thank you.

Can you post your 'Windows Update.log' file found in c:\windows? What will
give me a better understanding of what is going on.

For Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Server 2003:

download our controls from

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/cab/x86/unicode/iuctl.cab and save
them to your desktop. Extract the .cab file following the steps below:

1. Go to the desktop and right click the iuctl.cab file.

2. Click "Open".

3. Select all the files listed.

4. Right click on them and click "Extract."

5. Point to a known location (like the desktop) and click "OK."

6. Go to the location you selected and right click the iuctl.inf file.

5. Click "Install."

Saw your email in hopes to find help for the same error
message I've received when trying to download updates. I'm
on Windows 98 and have not kept up on my updates. Any feed
back you get I would greatly apprecaite it if you would
pass it on. Thanks

Suggestion 1:

Try installing "Microsoft XML Parser 3.0 SP 4" from
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/xmlgen

eral.asp

Suggestion 2:

Try copying the following three files from a computer that is working to the
computer that is getting the error:

MSXML3.DLL

MSXML3A.DLL

MSXML3R.DLL

After replacing the files, restart your computer. You should be able to use
the Windows Update Web site.

Suggestion 3 (For Windows 2000 only):

Try installing the latest Windows 2000 Service Pack from the following

site:

http://microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/
