History:
I was using a peer to peer network. I installed a SBS 2003 that has 2 NIC
cards. I was going to use built in Routing to connect to my DSL modem and the
built in SBS DHCP service but changed my mind after the installation was
complete.

Problem:
I can not join my domain it says I don't have permission. I can't even share
any of the resources on my server. I can't get into my server because all of
my clients are on a workgroup.

Current setup:
My DSL modem/router/DHCP server connects to my switch. All my clients and 1
NIC on my server connect to the same switch. All computers including my
server have NIC's set to obtain IP automatically.

What I need to do:
I need to have access to shared drive on my SBS server so I can run backup
programs from my server to my clients.

Help:
I'm very new to SBS 2003. I know a bit about NT server but that doesn't help
much hear. I need simple step by step instructions on how to fix this.

Hi,

Please post the ipconfig/all from the server and one from a client.

Change your mind back and you should be able to get things to work.
Marina is asking for an ipconfig/all from the server and a workstation
because that incorrect tcp settings are the number one reason that
things do not work. The server shoudl have a static ip with its dns
pointeed to itself. All workstations should point their dns to the
server.

Go to http://www.smallbizserver.net/ and click on the network section
for some more details.

Hi T,

You servernics are in the same IP range and don't make any sense to me at
all. Check this out:

Smallbizserver.Net > Network > Two Nics, a static IP address, ISA, router:

-Marina-

Thanks for the article it looked good and promising but here is where I had
problems with the article. Maybe you can shed some light on what I did wrong.

When I high lighted my internal NIC and went to Advanced and then Advanced
Settings all the settings for the Internal NIC were good however the External
NIC did not have an option to haveTCP/IP only without choosing a Protocol or
service.

then on Step C when I tried to open the DHCP service I get an error. First
I have to choose my Authorized DHCP Server something I didn't have to do
before and then when click on it in the left hand pane I get the error that
it can not find the DHCP server.

Any additonal helpful thougts would be appreciated.

Hi T,

You will want to set static IP's on your servernics. On the external nic,
check TCP/IP, then Advanced.
The servernics don't need DHCP, your clients will use that.
What is the DHCP scope? And how did you set your nics now? Is the DHCP
server service running?
