Messenger Error when starting MCE 2005 --- KB946648

KB946648 needs to be uninstalled. This is documented in other threads on
this subject. Once this is done, I can then go into Media Center Settings
and uncheck "Allow instant messages within Media Center". Once this is done
I can then reinstall KB946648. Under Add/Remove I see KB946648 but when I
click on it, I see 'This update cannot be removed.' I am assuming that this
update was part of SP3 when I installed it a few weeks ago (I just built a
new PC for MCE 2005). Can someone verify that SP3 does in fact include
KB946648 and if so, does this mean that I have to uninstall SP3 inorder to
get KB946648 uninstalled? If this is the case can I then go into Media
Center Settings and uncheck "Allow instant messages within Media Center", and
then reinstall SP3? Will this achieve my objective of not having to put up
with the "Messenger Error" each time that I launch Media Center?

with all other fixes included in SP2.As I don't have MCE 2005 with SP3 so I
can not check the uninstallation issue of that KB.
But there is a registry tweak:-
Open Notepad and copy and paste the following:-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App
Paths\ehshell.exe]
“AllowMessengerExecHandleFailure”=dword:00000001
Now save the above as a reg file.
Finally launch this .reg file to execute.
