Email sends/receives only as attachments

I downloaded the updated IExplorer 5.5 10 days ago
which included Outlook Express. Ever since, if I send or
receive an email, nothing shows in the text message body.
It only shows as an attachment. If I send/receive a message
with an attachment, it shows up as two attachments, with
two different icons....one Notepad,one Explorer, usually.
If any of you Mensa puzzle-solvers can help, accept my
thanks. My fingers are going numb from opening attachments.

Usually rebooting fixes this problem.

Restarting doesn't fix. Reinstalling IE5.5
doesn't fix. Is there an instruction, command
or option that I've incorrectly entered.

Check your encoding options:

You should use Western European (ISO) so check the following options:

Tools\options\send\international
Tools\options\read\font
Tools\options\read\international

For composing, go to format\encoding

Sandi,thanks. No diff.Checked all encoding
options/send and receive.
All were correct, but I redid them anyway.
No soap... Any more ideas ?? as my PC continues
its fateful journey to my window...Manny
