Event Type: Error
Event Source: Virtual Server
Event Category: Virtual Machine
Event ID: 1127
Date: 9/21/2006
Time: 8:11:15 AM
Description:
The virtual hard disk "C:\Replica\DCNCB2CSZSM02Q\MSVS\Shared Virtual
Machines\DCNCB2CSZSA27Q\DCNCB2CSZSA27Q_C.vhd" attached to primary channel (0)
of "DCNCB2CSZSA27Q" could not opened with read-write access. You need
read-write access to the virtual hard disk to boot a virtual machine. Another
virtual machine or the Virtual Disk Manager might be using this disk right
now.
This occurs when VM's are shutdown and configuration settings changed (added
memory, hard drives etc). Host running on Win2k3 Ent R2. DL385/16GB memory.
Not running VM's as a user currently and service running as Local System --
all defaults. Anyone seen this before?
I have been able to fix temporarily by re-installing VS but then the
issue returns. Seems to be a new issue with R2 as some of the other
posts only mention R2.
Personally testing with Win XP 64 and MSVS 2005.
I am having a similar issue.
on 2003 r2 the virtual machines turn themselves off and cannot be restarted, due to the error - drives could not be accessed or are in use.
I find that stopping and re-starting the VM service resolves the issue - albiet temporary.
The machines seem to run for no more than an hour before halting.

I am facing same issue...was anyone able to find a soln to this..tried above specified solns...dint help..thanks
virtual server service set to logon using 'Network Service' and that does not have full access to the path of the Virtual Hard Drive.
change permissions or logon the service using local system account
I've simply copy .vhd in same folder, destroy the previous one, rename the new one, create a new .vmc and it works fine for me.
Running, Vista 64bit with Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 (1.1.603.0 EE R2 SP1)
Hope this will help.
Hi Alex,
I would recommend that you remove the virtual server and add it again, when
performing operations like that. That should also fix your problem.
Kind Regards

The reply posted by Alex is working.
its small and excellent.
Thanks !!!!!!!
Hey! I figured out why it's going on.
Here, in my environment, it's being caused by Windows Server 2008 x64 User Account Control (UAC).
When you try to start the VM using Internet Explorer, the account used to access the VM is your account. Due to UAC and to a default behaviour on Win2008 NTFS permissions attribution, your account does not have administrative privileges on VM folder, blocking the VM to start.
So, you have to start the VM running IE as an administrator or, in the worst case, disabling UAC.
Best regards!!!
