I recently downloaded and installed VPC 2007 and was surprised to discover
it does not support USB devices
What is the Microsoft solution to this problem?

Windows 7 Virtual PC and a computer that supports vt is Microsoft's solution
to supporting USB in a Virtual PC.

None for VPC 2007. USB support is provided in Win7 virtualization, however.

I can run my VPCs ok, (originally created with VPC 2007), but I cannot
see any USB devices. The Help says there should be a USB option on the
VPC toolbar, but there isn't - I've just got Action, Tools & Ctrl+Alt_Del.

I have Upgraded the Integration Components, and rebooted the XP system.
Is there something else I need to do?

USB only works with the integration components active.

Try doing a shutdown of the VM then a restart. Make sure the
integration components are enabled in the settings.

Yes, I've done that to no avail. The Integration Features option in the
Settings dialog says Auto Enable, and Enable at Startup is checked. But
the dialog only includes options for Audio, Clipboard, Printer, Smart
Cards & then a list of all Drives. No sign of USB there.

Perhaps I need to create a new VM from scratch - pita!

USB only shows when the VM is running and it's on a menu of the
running VM.

But its not on any menu - I only have Action, Tools and Ctrl+Alt_Del

Just been creating a new Win7 VM, and it looks just the same. Perhaps I
need to investigate VMWare, as I need to develop an app that talks to USB...

Do you get any kind of message about the integration components being
disabled?

It really should be there if the integration components are working...

VMWare does do USB, so that's certainly an option...

OK, I've found, and fixed, the problem. I thought the IC had installed,
but it seems it hadn't. When I clicked on the Setup.exe on the virtual
CD then it installed correctly, after a reboot, and I do now have
working USB support!

What confused the situation was that the VM Settings seemed to show that
IC was installed and enabled. But I did have an 'Upgrade Integration
Components' option on the Tools menu that when I clicked it, seemed to
do nothing. That's when I tried running from the CD.

Thanks for your help.
