I don't know exactly when this started but for some time now, when I use
activesync, although I connect and my items are synchronised successfully
after a while a warning box appears on my PPC which states:

"Unable to obtain an servier-assigned IP address. Try again later or enter
an IP address in Network Settings".

I only ever activesync with my local PC, at home or work, and I only sync
with Outlook.

This has never been a problem until today when I tried to use the new Sprite
Backup 5.0 to backup to my PC. It insists that I do not have an IP address
assigned and will not proceed with the backup.

When I go and look at the DHCP table in my Linksys broadband router, my PPC
is clearly shown with an IP address.

I must have accidentally switched a setting or maybe there is a problem with
syncing to two different computers on two different networks? (e.g. at home
and work?).

If anyone has a clue how to solve this problem I would be very grateful for
the advice

Louis

I'm not sure the cause, but I've been getting this intermittently on my
k-jam, even when not using Wi-Fi, a soft reset usually gets it to go away -
if you soft reset and then try backing up, does it still throw the error?

I had this problem and found a fix on xda-developers somewhere.

I solved it by going to Settings|Connections|Configure Network adapters. Set
the 'Remote-NDIS Host' settings to use a specific IP address of 169.254.2.1,
subnet 255.255.0.0, default gateway 169.254.2.2

This is what they should be anyway, everything should work now and no
annoying message.
