"Installer Internal Error 2708". Can anyone help?

I've just re-installed Win 2K and am trying to reinstall my old
software.

For some reason I cannot reinstall Goldmine 5.5 PE. When I try, the
install fails with following messages:

Dialog box: Goldmine "Personal Installer Information - Internal error
2708"

I've installed SP3 and all available hotfixes.

I've tried Technet and MS KB but can't find a fix anywhere.

If it really is Windows Installer error 2708, it means "No entries found in the file table". Have
you got the actual original msi file, and can you look at it with Orca from the Platform SDK?

Yes I've downloaded the sdk and been able to view the msi file using
Orca - although being honest, it really doesn't mean a lot to me at
the moment - can you tell me what I should be looking for?

I've been able to get msi produce a log file, part of which I've
reproduced below:

SetupError
Internal Error 2835. ErrorIcon, SetupError

Any further help would be appreciated...

If you look at the File table with Orca, are there any file entries there?

I'm wondering if earlier versions of the windows installer engine would process msi files that had
empty File tables, but later versions won't.

I've checked with orca and the file table isn't empty.

When I run the validate tool I get error and warning messages which
I've copied below in case they may be of some use.

If anyone can shed any light on these I'd be grateful
