I've created components on Windows 2000 Server. I've exported the
application proxy, and when I try to install it on WinXP, it fails. I
get the following in the log file.

Action 14:17:11: RegisterComPlus. Registering COM+ Applications and
Components

Also, if you look in Component Services you can see the proxy, but
the app says that it is not registered correctly. If you try to
uninstall the proxy, MSI says that it is not installed.
If I try to add the proxy through Component Services I get:
DllRegisterServer failed on component. I've looked at the msi through
Orca, and there are only two files that get installed, the tlb and the
tmp file.

Does anyone know what it is wrong here.

Thanks,
Anthony

Hi Anthony,
Can you make sure your Windows 2000 System has Service Pack 2 and COM+
Rollup 18.1 installed. Then remove the app proxy, regenerate it, and try
again.

See the following for COM+ Rollup 18.1
http://www.microsoft.com/Windows2000/downloads/recommended/q313582/download.

That fixed the problem. Thanks!

I'm also the installation developer. Since it seems that this rollup patch
is required, how can I detect it?

Hi Anthony,
You can do a couple of things. First, all hotfixes are in the registry
at the following location.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Hotfix

2nd in Add/Remove Programs there is a list of Post SP2/Pre SP3 hotfixes
installed, just look for the Q number.
