Replace the existing OST with the OST you want to import into outlook.
Open outlook.
At this point you should see all the old emails and folders.
Now, export these mails to PST format.
Close the outlook.
Go to the outlook OST folder again.
Delete the OST. ( next time when you restart outlook it will automatically create a new OST, so dont worry!).
Open the Outlook.
Let it download all the existing emails from the Exchange server.
Now import the mails from the PST your created above.
I hope this helps.

Not only wrong but TWO YEARS out of date.....
Unfortunately, the forum (egghead café) you are using results in a lot of
wrong answers to very old posts. Egghead pushes their posts to this
newsgroup (at msnews.microsoft.com), where they litter the newsgroup with
useless replies. (I encourage you to "report" this post to the egghead
admins - maybe they will finally take my advice and lock older threads.)
I highly recommend you use a real newsreader and point it to
msnews.microsoft.com - it's a much better interface than eggheads. No
membership required. :) If you prefer a web interface, use
http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/default.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.outlook.general&lang=en&cr=US -
it requires a LiveID though.

In this situation if you have the Outlook OST file you can easily retrieve all your mailbox content. You just need to convert the OST file into PST file. Use a third Party convert ost to pst converter such as Stellar Phoenix Convert OST PST, to efficiently convert ost file data into a pst file. You can get the tool from
http://www.stellarconvertostpst.com
Free version of the tool is available to evaluate the efficiency and ease of use. Free evaluation version of the tool previews all the recoverable ost file contents in full.
