This is a brand new PC from HP. We installed Office from the MS website with
the key from our vendor. Setup goes fine. I connect to POP email, and
during the send/receive process, Outlook crashes, offers to restart, but that
just sends it in an endless loop. Event log shows error 7001. I
uninstalled/reinstalled, error remains. It begins the send receive process,
but before it can complete, it crashes. I have another user, same download,
same PC, same email source, no errors.

Did this brand new HP ship with anti-virus software or did you install it
yourself?
Send/receive issues are often caused by having a virus scanner installed
that integrates with Outlook. Disable/uninstall this integration and try
again.

I will try that, but I'm not optimistic. Again, I have an identical unit
with the identical config and it works fine. I'll try it, but keep thinking
of other possibilities.

The event numbers should have a source related to it in the event viewer.
What does it say?

That has nothing to do with this.

Error codes from another application (SPSS) do not apply to all other
applications.
