Outlook email periodically hangs on SMTP connection with the server at my
university. I get the following error message:

Task 'UCSC Account - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC7D) : 'Your outgoing
(SMTP) server does not support SSL-secured connections. If SSL-secured
connections have worked in the past, contact your server administrator or
Internet service provider (ISP).'

This is wrong: the server does support SSL. This problem doesn't occur
immediately after re-boot but comes up at an indeterminate time after reboot.
Sometimes a day, sometimes an hour. Other accounts (Gmail, Yahoo) send
without problems. It is driving me crazy. Thanks for any help you all can
give.

Are you using a firewall or antivirus to scan outgoing mail? They could be
interfering with the connection to the server.

I have the same exact problem. Sometimes when I send emails they get stuck in the outbox while outlook tells me the server does not support SSL. This happens even with all add-ins disabled.

The best answer I can give is that outlook 2003 support for POP over SSL is flaky. If you disable SSL the problem should go away. You give up security but you get to keep your sanity :-)
