Import DBX files into Outlook 2007

I have old DBX files (including Folders.dbx) stored on a CD. How can I import
them into Outlook 2007?

You can't, of course. Those are Outlook Express files.

Hard to tell, Russ, if you're just being snippy, or if I've somehow given you
the impression that I'm an idiot. In any case, fully aware that they are
Outlook Express files, I am also aware that all sorts of programs have an
ability to read and/or translate files as data is inported. Outlook Express
can read Eudora Mail, etc., etc., etc. Perhaps there IS no way for Outlook to
translate and import DBX files, but I'm surely not the only person who's ever
wished that WAS possible! Was it foolish of me to wonder if somebody's SOLVED
this limitation?

I'd still be grateful if anyone else has anything helpful to add...

Err, couldn't you import them into OE then into Outlook 2007? I mean, 2k7
can still import from OE, right?

Wouldn't it be correct to say 'Yes, you need to figure out how to restore
the DBX files into Outlook Express and then you can import through Outlook's
File - Import/Export menu option'? I mean, I understand not linking to
something like How to Restore Outlook Express Mail Folders from a Backup
Copy (http://email.about.com/cs/oetipstricks/qt/et110402.htm) or Inside
Outlook Express - Backup and Restore
(http://www.insideoutlookexpress.com/backup/partial.htm) but, I just want to
make sure I'm not totally insane in thinking that there's still a data
migration path in OL2k7.

Everything you've said, FH, makes sense; I just didn't explain myself fully
... sorry.

When I began using Vista, I used Windows Mail. I've tried every method known
to mankind to IMPORT some DBX files that I'd archived onto a CD into Windows
Mail. I followed all the rules; trust me. Copied the whole directory to my
C:\Users\Documents folder, made sure Read Only was off, made sure there was
a Folders.dbx file. I've jumped through ALL the hoops, and the Import just
won't happen. I've been round 'n round in the WinMail newsgroup about this.
I've learned that I'm not alone ... LOTS of people have this problem with
WinMail.

And that's why I moved to Outlook ... thinking that, maybe, those DBX files
could be imported HERE. But as you suggest, importing them from Outlook
Express isn't an option, obviously, because I'm using Vista. And importing
those DBX files into WinMail, and then importing from THERE into Outlook ...
can't do it, 'cuz WinMail won't import, as it should.

When importing DBX files into WinMail (or into Outlook Express) ... when it
WORKS, you have the choice of importing from the program itself or from a
"STORE" of DBX files. That's kinda what I was hoping to find in
Outlook........

Well, Outlook won't work with raw files. It needs OE/Windows Mail to be
using the files, and it works through OE/Windows Mail to get the data.

Out of curiousity, just to be sure the data was ok, have you tried importing
it into OE on a machine still running XP?

You posted a very brief question with no detail. I answered what you asked.
You did not post enough information to assist further. Now that you have,
you have discovered your answer. You must import the DBX files to a program
that can use them, then import from there to Outlook. Don't expect us to be
mind readers.
