Do you have Outlook 2000 configured in Internet Mail Only mode or in
Corporate/Workgroup mode? If you're not sure, check the second line of Help
| About Microsoft Outlook.

In that case you will need to add the Outlook Address Book service to your
profile in Tools | Services. Instructions can be found at
http://www.slipstick.com/contacts/oloab.htm#cw. You should hopefully only
need to follow steps 1 through 3, and not worry about the rest of the
section.

The same feature is available in both versions, you just
get to it a different way. You need to make sure that
your Contacts are set to show as an email address book
for the Outlook Address Book. This is done in the
properties of the Contacts folder.

I went to Slipstick, added Outlook Address Book from Tools | Services and can not check the box for "Show this folder in address book" in File | Folder | Properties.

I also looked in Tools | Services | Addressing, and the only folder that appears in the addressing search path is Personal Folder.

Other suggestions? Please :)

Right-click the Contacts folder in the Folder List, select Properties, then
the Outlook Address Book tab...the checkbox appears on that tab.

The only other way I know of to sort the Address Book is by last name -- go
to Tools | Services, highlight the Outlook Address Book service, click
Properties, and set your sort order there. I don't think there are any
other options. The Address Book functions in Outlook have never been very
sophisticated.

I agree with you that the address book is not sofisticated.
The question is when you click on the "To" button a list of the address book
appears, and this one is ALWAYS sorted by first name. There is no way I
found to sort it otherwise.
To Heidi:
Yes you can create other Address books by categories: Right ckick on the
Contacts folder and select "New"...
Don't forget to go to the properties of this new folsder and set "Show as
Outlook address book"

For your first comment (to me) -- the Address Book, as shown when you click
To, can be sorted in a few different ways, or at least it can in most
configurations -- instructions for doing it depend on the version of
Outlook. If you'd like to provide your version I can help you find the sort
settings.

For your second comment (to Heidi) -- since the Address Book has a
completely different view than the Contacts folder, she can change the sort
order in her Contacts any way she wants, but it's not going to change the
sort order in the Address Book.

To Jocelyn.
Thanks for the reply and sorry for the late response (the reason for the
CC). I was on vacation.
I am eager to know how to change the sort order in the Address Book as shown
when you click To.
Everyone in the company drives me crazy about it.

it appears sthat you copied and pasted the addresses into the current
program. Also, you have a setting in your mail preferences: "Add wmails that
I reply to to my address book automatically" checked. As far as the
addresses showing up, make sure that you paste them into the main folder and
then reboot the program. Then create new sub folders. The imported folders
will not pick up in outlook. Even if you have 2 .pst files open it will not
read from the menus that you want it to without doing some manual manuvering.
