I just solved this problem.

Solution: Change screen resolution, change it back. Then resize MS Window.

I use an external monitor and see this on occasion. It seems MS Word does not
detect that the resolution has changed and does something odd to windows. Mac:
13" macbook MS Word: 2008 Hope this works for you!

I had the same question. This is how I change the resolution on my iMac (then I changed it back). Problem solved.

How to change the resolution---
"When you scale the resolution to provide more space, text and objects appear smaller.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Displays.
Click Display, click Scaled, then select a resolution. Some apps may not fit entirely on the screen in some scaled resolutions."
