On a few of our new Powerbooks G4, this message appears when we open
Microsoft Word:

An unexpected error occurred while trying to load the Microsoft Framework
library.

When you click "ok", the program runs normally.
Questions:
1. Why does it do this?
2. Is it anything to worry about?
3. If it's something to worry about, how do I resolve the problem?

I've tried a couple of the selp-help suggestions from this website:
support.microsoft.com (the mactopia link)

Hi Randy,

A couple possibilities:

1. it's most likely a permissions error having to do with the MUD
(Microsoft User Data file). Quit all Office apps and navigate to your
identity folder in the MUD. Do a Get Info (Command>i) on all the identity's
files and make sure the "Locked" box is not checked. Also be sure you have
full permissions.

2. You can also get the framework error if you have more than one version
of Office and have opened an app from a previous version. You need to quit
all Office apps *and* use Activity Monitor to quit all database daemons.
Then relaunch your usual version of Word, etc.

3. And, this error message can occur if Word can't load some of the shared
resources because the Entourage database is not available. This can happen
if the database is in the process of being compacted or rebuilt.

Please report back on whether any of these suggestions works (or not). HTH.

Beth and Randy,

I get the Microsoft Framework Error when loading PowerPoint, but read
this when trying to solve another Word issue.

I have 20 eMacs, all running 10.4.4 - had hesitated on upgrading due to
mixed opinions. I have Office 2004 that I loaded using a single media
CD, though I have purchased enough licesense.

On one computer, I ran the 10.4.6 update as well as the Office 11.3.
whatever update. That did not fix the problem. When the users login,
they are logging into the server using network directory services and
SMB. They can save to the Network Home Directory, and I do not give
them access to the local hard drives. Thoughts?

Thanks!

Sorry. I must be having a dense day but I'm having trouble understanding
exactly what the problem is. You're getting the framework error but only
with PowerPoint? Did you try any fixes which might be appropriate from my
previous post? If so and nothing worked, try posting to the
microsoft.public.mac.office.powerpoint newsgroup.
