Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel I opened a template in Word Publisher layout view, but when the paper size is changed from US letter to A4 the background color stays letter size. I am unable to find how to expand the background to full A4 margin width.

Second part the problem is how to create a new background in Publisher View, as the dropdown menu format background is no longer available.

You're absolutely correct in both observations. The templates are built on
U.S. Letter specifications & do not automatically scale if the paper size is
changed. The background graphic is not a _Background_ as would be applied
from the Format menu. It is a graphic element contained in the Master Page,
so that's where you have to go to resize it just as you would a graphic
object in the Header of a regular Word document. New/different background
would be put into the Master as well.

You'll also find quite a few other differences when working in Publishing
Layout View. It is merely a glitzy veneer appropriate for school-age users,
community newsletters & the like.

Thanks Bob,

I was able to resize by changing to the "master page" tab in the bottom right corner as you advise. Took me a while to find the master page.

Word "help" was not of any use as "master page" returns no results found. Thanks be to forum pages. Why is it that the help search feature avoids returning results for the very same wording that is on the tab??

Beats me, but as I just replied to another post, Help in Office 2008 is all
but helpless. I am hoping for a significant improvement in the next
release. In the meantime try going to the Help & How To page of the Mactopia
web site... Although it isn't much more complete.
