Hi All,

I have had this show up on the server it doesn't appear to be cause any
issues with email between the 2 sites or outbound.

Severs

-Server 2003 Standard SP2

-Exchange 2003 standard.

-Both are DC's and GC

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeIS
Event Category: General
Event ID: 9549
Date: 24/10/2007
Time: 14:23:36
User: N/A
Computer: SERVER1-LDN
Description:
An ambiguous SMTP proxy SystemMailbox{2C9371BF-68C2-4F6F-8158-1C8A211737AD}
was found on 0x2 mailboxes in the DS. The store cannot map this SMTP proxy
to a unique Mailbox GUID.

For more information, click http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp.

I did a quick Google search and found the following Kb article

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316622/en-us

Am not sure, That post talks about the problem being linked to the
systemmailbox being absent, the problem here seems to be more along the
lines of there being an ambiguous or multiple systemmailboxes.
The Error message isn't the same either, nor the error code.

However it might well fix the problem anyway, just a little unsure and I
would hate for it to screw up potentially both Exchange Servers!

Please let me know if you need anymore information

Hello Ian,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand that you get event error 9549
on Exchange 2003. If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't
hesitate to let me know.

Based on my research, this problem occurs because the Active Directory
Users and Computers MMC snap-in does not generate a notification when you
specify the e-mail address for an object in Active Directory that you
select in the Find dialog box. Therefore, Exchange Extension (Maildsmx.dll)
does not check for uniqueness even though the new e-mail address is a
duplicate.

To work around this problem, use the Active Directory Find feature to make
sure that the e-mail address that you specify is not used by any other
object. Do this when you want to change the e-mail address for an object.

If the issue persists, it may caused by the Duplicate system mailboxes.
Please try the following step:

1. Go to Microsoft Exchange System Objects OU in the Active directory users
and computers, please remove the system mailbox {GUID} with CNF:###

Note: The GUID is {2C9371BF-68C2-4F6F-8158-1C8A211737AD}

2. Force the domain controller replication in the local site and run
cleanup agent on the exchange system manager. If you see the second system
mailbox disconnected. Right click it and purged it.

I hope these steps will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,
