Event ID 8026 LDAP Bind was unsuccessful on directory

This doesn't seem to be causing a problem that I know of but there are
several entries in the event log over the last couple of weeks which our
monitoring software is picking up on. The Exchange server is Windows Server
2003 SP1. Exchange is running SP2. The error message is as follows;

LDAP Bind was unsuccessful on directory server1.domain.co.uk for
distinguished name ''. Directory returned error:[0x51] Server Down.

Over the couple of weeks the server which it cannot bind with changes, so
one day it maybe server2 or server3 or so on. The Exchange server isn't a
domain controller but i can ping all domain controllers from the Exchange
server without a problem. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing
this and should I be concerned?

yet there are several reasons because of which it may appear in your
application log. You can also try to see if the server WMI is working well
by using webmtest.exe and off course the basic troubleshooting tools like
ExBPA, DCDIAG and NETDIAG too. output of these tools helps you to conclude
the problem place most of the times.
