I have to upgrade to xp pro and reintall excel 2000 part
of office 2000, how can I copy the custom toolbars, etc
that I have set up now? is it in the win.ini file? Can I
copy it to the new copy of excel 2000?

The toolbar is kept in a file with extension .xlb. I think that it's named
excel.xlb in xl2k.

But I'd go into excel and make a slight change to the toolbar. Then exit excel.

Then use windows start button|Find/seach to look for *.xlb. Copy the one with
the latest date to a safe spot.

Don't forget your stuff in XLStart (personal.xl*) and any templates you've made.

I don't run WinXP, but most reinstalls of excel won't screw up *.xlb. But it
can't hurt to back it up anyway.

And to re-install your toolbar, just go into windows explorer and double click
on that *.xlb file (in the nice spot).

xl2k is very nice and will copy it to its rightful home.

Oops. I didn't notice the "format c" in the subject.

There's a good chance that lots of things will be gone when you do this <bg>.

I have a short list of things to copy/update when we change pc's at work.

It's not complete, but may help you.

Word/Excel files:

FileName Use
custom.dic personal dictionary
*.acl personal autocorrect list
mssp2_en.exc personal exclusion dictionary
normal.dot default (for new documents) template
*.dot Any other templates you've made

*.xlb personal toolbar
book.xlt defaults for new workbooks
sheet.xlt defaults for new worksheets
personal.xl* personal macros
*.xlt Any other templates you've made

And don't forget any:
Local files (If you don’t store on LAN)
(Settings) Directories and other defaults (Tools|Options stuff)

I know that format c things will be gone, that is why I
want to copy the toolbar and other files on a CD than copy
those files to the new formatted C drive when I reinstall
office....should work!

That was my feeble attempt at humor (at my expense) since I missed the subject.
