"Fatherly Advice" on view through November 8
Micah Sherrill's newest artwork
"Fatherly Advice", was created in conjunction with The Big Read
, the NEA funded community bookreading project. Ferrin Gallery invited five contemporary artists to interpret the Harper Lee classic,
To Kill A Mockingbird. Each artist used their own visual vocabulary and chosen medium to explore the narrative or specific elements from the book or film. Berkshire
artists, Ven Voisey, North Adams and Michael Zelehoski, Pittsfield, both chose to explore the Chifferobe, a
piece of furniture that defendant, Tom Robinson, was asked to chop up for the accuser Mayella Ewell. Boston painter, Gayle Boyajian, known for her realist depictions of birds in surreal or dreamlike imagery, explores the
mockingbirds in scenery that evokes the mood of the southern story. Two southern artists who regularly show with the gallery, Micah Sherrill, Asheville, NC and Mark Sandlin, Decatur, GA, explored imagery from the film and book.
