Generally what i do for national news is to go to orkut India
community (shortly called IC) and have a glance at the threads.
more than the biased media news one would happen to get to know
people's view on those news (from different sources, eg CNN IBN, NDTV,
Times of India, Rediff news, etc). To my knowledge its a very active
community and discusses sensible issues instead of mere chatting that
happens in other communities in orkut.

Chandrayaan finds ice in moon craters...

The prestigious Rs 386-crore mission’s most recent lunar mark is the discovery of 600 million metric tons of water ice on the moon’s north pole.  Nasa payload on Chandrayaan-1, Mini-Sar, finds 40 craters with water ice. Craters range from 2-15km in diameter. Ice must be at least couple of metres thick to give signature picked up by Mini-Sar. There may be 600m tonnes of water ice on Moon’s north pole.

After reading many journal papers in engg, something that i realised
about research on human health:
These researches are done by selecting a group of people and testing
them for a medicine or certain food or nutrients.
These researches are not like the ones in science and engineering, in
which case there are possiblilties that we can jump into the
fundamental aspects and find the truth. But even in science and engg
not always this is possible because all the research works are done
based on certain 'assumptions' that make the applicability of the
findings or results limited.

While number of research works in science and engg can be challenged,
results on research in human heath is often highly questionable.
Plunging into the fundamentals of the mechanisms that govern human
activities is far far challenging.. thats why they select a sample
group and test them and statistically arrive at a conclusion.
This kind of research has soooo many assumptions that make them void
or disputed when a some other group come with different results.
thats why over years confusion always prevailing on a food item, or
medicine, whether they are good or bad.

so this 'beer-is-good-for bones' could also be result of a
questionable research..
i am sorry to challenge others research.. but currently i am being
taught to think like this. :)

On Monday, the Union cabinet cleared the Foreign Educational Institutions (regulation of entry and operation) Bill, which aims to allow foreign universities to set up campuses in India.
The Foreign Universities Bill, 2010, has been pending for the last four years owing to opposition from various quarters, including the Left parties, over certain provisions.

yes we need good no. of foreign univs in our country.. if not bench
mark at least they should be competition to the private institutes
provided that they dont demand high fees.
all of our IITs are developed by collaborative efforts with foreign
univs in the past.. but those were elite institutes.. lets hope that
they dont come with sole attitude of doing business as what is now the
plight of education in our country!!

At the World Expo 2010 at Shanghai, where countries are exhibiting to garner business and investment, the Indian narrative is predominantly centred around street food and handicrafts, a spiel dumped a good 20 years ago. On entry, one is confronted by stalls, mainly empty, selling samosas, naan, rotis, lassis and a bunch of boxy booths peddling brassware.
India loses big opportunity in global stage
Showcasing well neither the past nor the present to the 70 million visitors expected to visit the expo over six months, India may have lost a golden public relations opportunity.

Alagiri and Mamata lead list of ‘absent’ ministers

Records of Cabinet meetings accessed by TOI show that the two top the list of ‘missing’ ministers, with a bleak attendance record of 27% and 37%, respectively.
