Service Message: Changes to the mountain forecast data feed
In June of this year we will be launching an improved mountain forecast service which means that there will be some changes to the API that we provide through DataPoint. The changes include:
Increasing the number of areas in Scotland to four, giving a new total of nine regions across the UK which include:
Brecon Beacons National Park
Snowdonia National Park
Peak District National Park
Yorkshire Dales National Park
Lake District National Park
SW Highlands (including Ben Nevis, Glen Coe and the rest of Lochaber, Argyll including the Isles, Loch Lomond, Trossachs and Arran)
South Grampian and SE Highlands (including South Cairngorms, east Aberdeenshire and Angus Hills, Ben Vrackie, Ben Lawers, Loch Tay and Ochils)
North Grampian (including North and Central Cairngorms, Monadhliath, Ben Alder, Creag Meagaidh, Loch Ericht and Loch Rannoch)
North West Highlands (including Sutherland, Ben Wyvis, Wester Ross, The Cuillin, Glen Affric, Glen Shiel and Knoydart)
Providing a new feature to show the weather conditions for each of the regions at a range of altitudes from valley to peak
We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by the changes which will require you to make adjustments to the way in which you access and utilise Met Office mountain forecasts from DataPoint. A first step in the improvements will involve re-registering for the new developer portal and obtaining a new API key per application. We will provide updated documentation which describes the new APIs for accessing mountain forecasts during May, and confirm the exact date of the service switch over by the end of May.
