Your MediaServer:
Hi, i updated mediahouse pro a few days ago and played sone music from my big network folder. Just today i came to play again, and find the entire contents of the folder were deleted. The access time is when i was using mediahouse pro.
I do have a reasonable backup, but ask that you check your code for nasties.
I note that another user reported hacktool virus. My antivirus did not show anything, but i can see no other possible explanation for the music to have been deleted (80Gb, with many subfolders).
I have used your app without problems for a couple of years, and find it very good.
Please check it

Hi John,

MediaHouse Pro just streams music from the network folder. Technically your folder is on network and all its content always stays on the network and MediaHouse has no access to delete that folder. I need a little more detail to understand what actually happened i.e.
1 - You cannot see the network folder via the MediaHouse application?
2 - You cannot locate it (network folder) physically on the network ?

In case 1 you need to check your media server that gave access to mediahouse to stream.
In case 2 you need to check the file manager software you use to manage your folders and remember if some other operation could have accidentally deleted your folder.

thanks,
Diwakar

Thanks for your reply Diwakar,

To clarify, I can see the network folder Music from any network device, but it is empty. Everything was deleted from it without trace. It is a folder on a Qnap NAS.
I certainly didn't intentionally delete all the subfolders, and only I have RW access.
I know its easier to blame someone else, and i can definitely make mistakes, but to totally delete all those subfolders and contents without deleting the Music folder itself would take a lot of doing.
However, I am sure you have checked your code so there must be some other explanation.
Because the last access time  coincided with the last time i had used MediaHouse, i jumped to conclusions after seeing the report of a possible virus in the updated version.
I am restoring the music from backup now (actually 574G 151,000 items, may take a while) and will try again!
I do like MediaHouse Pro a lot, and never had any trouble with it

Regards
John

Well of course it was all my fault Diwakar, and apologise for casting blame your way:

After using Mediahouse that morning I now remember that i did some maintenance of my network and deleted a User who was no longer needed. I realise now that said user had an NFS share to the network Music folder which was mounted when the machine boots. When i deleted the User account and files (as Admin), Ubuntu took me at my word and deleted out the subfolders and files belonging to the NFS mount.

If I had a suitable hat, i would eat it!

As it is, i can only hope you will accept my sincere apologies.

Regards
John

I humbly accept your apology :)
But what's most important is that you did have a backup of your music and can continue to enjoy listening it using MediaHouse.

Thanks
Diwakar
