Violettes Lock - white-winged scoter, Mont Co

I stopped at Violettes this afternoon with not enough time to survey the huge variety of waterfowl. One of the first groups I viewed through the scope had an adult male white-winged scoter. Photo on eBird.

Large numbers of redhead, gadwalls, canvasback, both scaup, common goldeneyes, etc. The red-necked grebe and long-tailed duck I saw Saturday were not obvious today, but I lacked time to scan every group.

The towpath is getting icy in spots, but it's worth the effort.
