It isn't but that's an easy answer. Go to OldBird.org and order a complete mic setup from Bill Evans for $320, download a free software like Audacity and start recording!

It's a blast but also very addicting so be careful!

While I am using the 21c setup currently, I've also built a homemade setup that us much more portable. The 21c requires an AC plug in for the black box (preamp and high pass filter). My homemade set up has a built in amplifying component and the entire system runs on rechargable batteries. I keep the 21c permanently mounted up on a roof and use my portable setup for when I go elsewhere, like parking garages or lots to escape bug noise.
