There was a male White-winged Scoter at the Mouth of the Monocacy this afternoon. Was downstream, Montgomery County side. Looked to be an adult, but was distant.

Large numbers of diving duck, especially on the Montgomery County side where there were 120+ Common Goldeneye, 7 Canvasbacks and 35+ Redheads. 1 male Red-breasted Merganser among the smaller numbers of duck on the Frederick side. Lots of distant ducks went unidentified. Total of five Bald Eagles patrolling...and causing havoc.

Also 3 Barred Owls calling, and impressive numbers of passerines along the edges of the ice - including more than 40 bluebirds.

A few waterbirds upstream at Nolands Ferry, including 13 Tundra Swans. Counted 105 Black Vultures gathered in trees nearby - impressive total!

Saw two dark-morph Rough-legged Hawks at Stull Rd at lunchtime -- at least 4 birds still hanging around there this week, 2 light, 2 dark.

cheers
