Dear Rosario,

I have started to evaluate Mayan-EDMS recently (as you probably have noticed from my posts to your GitHub presence), in order to test it for a major deployment in the health domain in severely resource-strapped environments in least developed countries.
So far, it has been a great experience and I wish that you get all the support you need to continue this terrific effort. I did, however, note that you got burnt by some individuals that thought it a great idea to break the FLOSS/GPL idea, and have been dismayed to read that Wikipedia tried to chuck you out too... all of which is not only ridiculous, but must also rather discouraging.
On top of that, there has not been much (any?) activity on GitHub and lists (as far as I could note), so I am really worried that you may plan to leave this circus - which I would consider an incredible pity.
So, kindly allow the question: Are you planning to persevere, pleeeze?

As the French say: "Courage"!

For what it's worth, I've been concerned about the same things you have. The community around Mayan seems to be very quiet. Now, this could be because the software just works, but it also could mean lack of interest from either the community, the original developer, or both. Or, perhaps more likely, it could mean the author has other things to do...the software works well enough for him and he leaves it to the rest of us to pick up the torch.

If it's not the later....well, I have almost 15 years of experience using open source software, and a safe sign of project health has always been community involvement and mailing list chatter.

I mean no offence to the authors and am impressed by the work they've done. Just my two cents, since no one else had offered anything in regards to your email.

Thanks a lot for your kind mail, John.
You certainly have a point, and I have had similar experiences - though
I have to admit that Mayan DMS offers the right platform (Django) and a
sound set of capabilities, when compared to its competitors.
Hence, it would be a real shame to let it go. Of course, the commercial
competition inside the DMS domain is huge, and there is a lot of
distraction noise around.
At least I know by now, where we can find Mayan-EDMS nowadays
(http://www.rtm-it.com/Home.php), and I have contacted the company to
reveal their commitment to FLOSS, as a major (nationwide) deployment
will depend on the same.
Stay well, and all the best!
Chris
