preparing environmental layers

I'm trying to prepare StreamCat data layers for use in Maxent... these data are in csv format and I'm curious what the best way of converting them to ascii format would be?

If the values in the csv have coordinates, which they should, you can use rasterFromXYZ() in the raster package in R. After you have a Raster object, save it as ascii with writeRaster().
