At the meeting Thursday night  The biggest thing we are missing for our space is furniture for the classroom and seating for the other areas. So I'm going to propose this here (mainly to keep the initial costs down)

If any member has a 6 or 8 ft folding party table to spare they can store it down at the space for us to use in the classroom The bottom will be marked and they can take it back when they need it. the same for folding chairs they are to remain in the classroom unless the owner chooses separately.

The other areas are going to be BYOS {bring your own seat/stool}  As membership funds become available these items will be purchased in an orderly fashion. If you bring a seat/stool when you are there it is yours to use but it is open for others to use when your not present if you mark the back with your name.

Making the space usable is the first priority  Lighting, Venting, electrical, benches, storage,

I am mounting the white board so we have a place in the space to  set tasks and leave space specific messages I have a set of dry erasable markers that I will put in the tray onlu use these on the board. I did not check if it is magnetic also if it is then I will bring some board magnets that we can use

BTW do not use it as a coloring board but do use  it to sketch your space ideas.

Just to nip one idea in the bud based on previous experience to paint that wall with dry marker useable  paint would cost over $1500 with surface prep primer and paint.
If we need more space then some cork floor tiles glued on the wall or mounted on a 4 X8 sheet of 1/4" plywood would expand the idea space  it could even be placed where the video screen comes down (future project)

Please place comments suggestions in this thread

There were four semi-circular tables at the Puunene space that we purchased. Hopefully those made it to the container and will move to the new space.

Today's work Update

Conference room received final white paint Looking Good
White board installed
Video screen installed  Pull rope needs replacement.
The third room was emptied of all of the junk and file cabinets.
Floor paint was touched up in shop room
Now waiting for electrical work to be performed in shop, third room and some in Conference

The building manager will be contacted about drywall patching  tape and sand  of the third room now that it is empty. we found a problem in the sprinkler piping above the ceiling and the building management will be contacted to remedy it.

The layout of the third room will change slightly because of an Air conditioning unit in the wall.
As to make the electrical work easy we will not be moving anything more into the rooms as of now. We also need to give the building people time to mud and patch the third room.

There is a door for the com cabinet that can be modified for ventilation  We also need to install the plenum for the conference room vent.  I'm going to sketch up the projector mount tonight I will post and share  It will not be needed until I free the projector from my container.

There were fewer short file cabinets in the third room then I thought so they will not be used for bench bases. We will be asking the building if we can use some of them for members equipment storage until we secure better units. Quite a few of the drawers are filled with building stuff.

We still need to design and construct a sign for the windows.

Regarding the sign.

I have looked at the Maui County Code. It looks like for signs under 12 sq ft, we do not need a permit. Maui County does not allow moving signs and is somewhat restrictive on lights, if residences are nearby--I think we're good on that.

It does look like window signs don't need a permit, but they can't cover more than 50% of the window space.

It also looks like we can do flags without a permit. I don't know if a Maui Makers Pirate Flag would count? ;-)

Temporary banners have time limits associated with them and require permits, so that's not an option.

Here's the link to sign code, if you want to read it yourself:

Sign I just read both the 2002 and the 2010 amendment It seems that very bright reflective is off limits and flashing is also off limits  But I would think a sign that slowly changes color and that is highlighting a printed banner behind it would pass muster  I'll measure the window area and get some dimensions for the troops to design from. This may be a project for our wearables  and Arduino groups  Paper design and plan before build.

So as promised here are the window dimensions  The conference rooms windows are all 30" wide and 47" high  usable glass area There are 4 of them   For the work shop the center window Not operable is 24" Wide  and 39" high the other four windows open up and create issues for anysign thicker then 1/8"
So  here are some guidelines the total sign should not weigh more the 5 pounds it should be able to be mounted with either Velcro or Scotch strips  It should be clearly visible in Daylight without power At night some Led's mirroring the message. Slow change of color allowed. Should be able to be turned on and off with normal electrical timer.  Possible lighted time will be between sunset and 10 PM

I'm thinking two separate signs One with the LOGO makerman and one with our name  We would mount one in each space  the one for the Shop would be 2 ft X 3 ft the one for the Conference Room would be slightly larger.

Let the planning begin. Bring your Ideas to Thursdays St Anthony's meeting.

Cole and I came to an agreement to the location of the vent for the conference room   It will be in the ceiling directly opposite of the door  I'll Be at the space sometime tomorrow after I pick up my saber saw and mount the vent grate. We have it there and it is already white.  With this piece of work done from  the bottom we can remove the scaffold from the room and start to bring in folding tables and chairs.

See you Thursday night

How many tables and chairs do you need? I have several tables and several dozen folding chairs, and only need all of them at Thanksgiving.

Mike  we now have the curved tables in the classroom  We have about 4 folding chairs there now Maybe another 10 would fill in the classroom comfortably without crowding  that would place between 3 and 4 chairs at a table and fill in the room
