SharePoint issues with MathJax

I recently started using Mathjax within a SharePoint site and noticed that ONLY users with 'contribute' access are able to see the rendered equations on our pages. Users with read access see the raw LaTeX for the equations.

I thought read access was enough for Mathjax to work properly.

Have you looked at the raw HTML and confirmed that the
MathJax code is being sent to the browser in both cases?
