UNESCO Search for Expert in Course Development and Document Authoring

For the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN)

OER-MOOC Project

Within the framework of the UNESCO OER Programme and the 2012 Paris OER Declaration and with the support from the Hewlett Foundation (USA) and the European Union, UNESCO is working with the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) to develop a dynamic, viable repository of open-licensed courses and would like to engage an expert in course development and document authoring to assist the OER Unit at the NOUN HQ in Lagos, Nigeria.

The NOUN OER-MOOC Project seeks to transform all 1,600+ courses of NOUN for 180,000+ students into full-featured Open Educational Resources (OERs) as well to launch Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) versions of some of the courses to increase access to quality higher education for the 1 million per year final Year 12 secondary school students who qualified but didn’t make it into university.

NOUN has launched the OER-MOOC Portal offering full OERized courses in RTF (editable), PDF, and ePub (mobile friendly) versions.

We are looking for a world-class expert in:

1.      Course Development – pedagogy, instructional design, multimedia, MOOCs, Quality Assurance, Professional Development

2.      Document Authoring – 1,600+ PDFs have to be converted to editable files, styled, updated, open-license applied, and re-released as RTF, PDF, ePub, and optionally LMS-interoperable (SCORM/IMS/HTML5)

3.      Education technology/ICT – Learning Management Systems, MOOC platforms, portal development

4.      Project management – designing and implementing SMART project plans

The expert would assist Dr Jane-Frances Agbu, Head of the NOUN OER Unit based at the NOUN HQ in Lagos, Nigeria to assess and document existing processes in course development and to propose new, technology-enhanced processes and ensure effective transfer of skills.

Ideally the expert should be Nigerian or African, and/or have worked extensively in Nigeria, West Africa, pan-Africa, or developing countries. We have a strong preference for female candidates.

The expert will be engaged at United Nations rates commensurate with skills and experience. International experts will need to be based in Lagos, Nigeria for specified periods. Please send your CV to Dr Jane-Frances Agbu (oa...@noun.edu.ng) and Mr Abel Caine (a.c...@unesco.org)
