That this is occurring I think is interesting for a number of questions, such as Where does math come from? Is it created or discovered? What is the difference, if any, between 'pure' and 'applied' math?

Symmetry is one of those mathematical things that I regard as being part of nature way before humans came along. I think symmetry has more to do with our coming into being than vice versa.

Thanks, interesting article. The connectome map is somehow appropriately named for this time in our evolution where we are fixated on ourselves and making always in our own image. We have not moved so far from the “sun moves around the earth” thinking, even with the enormous amounts of all our accumulated lateral information.

Clearly symmetry was here before we were; more than any mathematical definition. Rotational movement is the first fold in the circle, a symmetrical division of 1:2, foundational for everything subsequently that can be folded in the circle, and with all polygons, polyhedra, and for all other folded configurations. That tells me symmetry is an indefinable quality of spherical unity before division, probably makes little sense in a discipline that does not fold circles.
