Dear all,
For welding procedure qualification (PQR) as per API 1104, is it required radiographic testing with destructive testing or no ???

Dear Tamer,

It is always prudent to go for RT before Destructive testing.  The Destructive testing is very costly.  Incase of any defects and it the defective part may be in tensile, nick break or bend specimen.  Your test will fail.  So irrespective standard you may please go for RT.

Hi Mr. Tamer

RT is not required but if you take RT you can avoid the defect while preparing the specimen for destructive testing or you can make a new sample for destructive testing.

Best Regards.

Dear all,
The baking temperature is 350 - holding temperature 150,see the manufacture rules and regulations before open the box of electrode cartoon, this is all low hydrogen electrode using, followup according manufacture recommendation and also take look in AWS D1.1.

Dear Mr.M. Sagukumar,

As per my experience the redrying  or backing  temperature for E-6013 electrode is 90-100 o'Celcius. Not more than that it will loosen the coating. These are not the Low Hydrogen electrodes.

Dear Sandeep,

If you are using E6013 electrode, Backing is
not required. Backing is only for Low Hydrogen Electrodes.

hi tamer
radiography is not so essential because ur welder gets qualified only
after the results of destructive testing only but if u take rt then u
can select the section for destructive testing or make a new specimen
for the destructive testing

Yes.

Since 6013 is Rutile type electrode, no need to bake the same.

Redrying is normally not required for E6013 rutile electrodes but depends on Manufacturer's recommendation.Based on some amufacturer's recommendation redryiong is performed at 125-250degC.

Hello,

It is true that Rutile (Ti02) Electrode does not require baking, because it is meant to have an amount of moisture inside to achieve better deposition rate, usually required for pipeline welding. If you bake, the moisture will be gone and the required effect will not be achieved.

E6013 is a rutile electrode and does not require backing. Proper storage before opening the pack is enough. It can be used straight.

Rutile does not require any holding temperature
It is not a Low Hydrogen type electrode
If you do require a low hydrogen deposit then you should change your consumable to a basic type electrode

Dear all,

As a senior expert in MMA-electrodes since many years at Esab, I can confirm that E6013-electrodes shall not be rebaked or heated in any way. When manufactured, these electrodes are dried at a temperature below 100 °C. This is necessary in order to achieve a good binding of the coating. The final moisture content in the coating is around 1%, which is necessary for the welding properties. The coating also contains a sizable amount of organic material and water containing minerals.  The coating moisture will vary with the moisture of the ambient atmosphere,  normally within permissible limits.
It is recommended to store these types of electrodes under the same conditions as other types of electrodes, i.e. dry and protected conditions, in order to avoid any unnecessary rusting of the wire or coating damage.

Best regards,
