Dear experts,

We need your kind support based on your experience and any code/std references.

The situation is that some of our process piping in refinery division THE CIRCUMFERENTIAL JOINT has come such position that the joint rests on the structural beam.
Is it allowed?

Some inspector have a concern that there is a developed stress while operation and the joint may fail.

Please share your experience and reference.

Thank you very much

With best regards

Dear sir,

You can avoid such type of issue by internal drawing study.

Secondly, Do the RT of the joint and make it flush and place a shoe support below it.
In second option, you can also cut the pipe and place a piece of pipe in between shoe.
In second case , your one extra joint will be created but no issue of failure in future.
In third option, you can shift the pipe and make the joint safe.

Prasad

Hi

Please adjust the pipe support location after approval by your piping design engineering and if not possible to adjust get concurrence from them for close out.

Generally,  piping drawings shall take care of this type of issues during fabrication of pipe spools.

It is a very common problem, if you don't have any option to move the support,  then before the support cut and add one pup piece pipe and do all welding and NDT as per the  regulations  and avoid the fouling.

Anil

1. Grind the pipe joint reinforcement on the contact area of beam.
2. Do NDT on the joint.
3. Get the design approvel.

Allowed if your owner allows with a mutal agreement that cap passes will be flushed off and NDE will be done to make sure that zero imperfections, our cases we welded wear pads flusing off cap passes followed by PT / RT or UT.

Thanks.
