For the morning MBC field trip at Muddy
Brook WMA in Hardwick, a high cloud cover rolled in, allowing only intermittent
sunshine. The three participants (and one person who just likes getting
outdoors) managed to find only the following:
3 Juvenal's Duskywing
1 Tiger Swallowtail
2 Eastern Tailed-Blue
1 Clouded Sulphur
1 Cabbage White
1 Six-spotted Green Tiger
Beetle
I returned later in the afternoon when the
sun came out, but could only add a single Tiger and single Sulphur. I had
hoped to find elfins, but no luck.
In my yard in Hardwick was one very fresh
Spicebush Swallowtail. I have about a dozen that I raised and overwintered
that are still chrysalids.
