The scheduled Mass Butterfly Club field trip at Horn Pond Mtn in Woburn convened at 10 am this morning, with 19 people there (new members, old members, and a guest). Conditions were seasonable but dry. New Jersey Tea was in full bloom, but not as abundant as in previous years. We didn’t see any wood lilies, which have also been relatively easy to find in the past. However, a good variety of other nectar sources were available.
The butterflies:
7 Great Spangled Fritillaries
2 Eastern Tailed-Blues
1 Little Glassywing
1 Clouded Sulphur
2 Orange Sulphurs
4 Cabbage Whites
1 Black Swallowtail
1 Eastern Tiger Swallowtail
2 Spicebush Swallowtails
1 Southern Cloudywing
2 American Ladies
1 Banded Hairstreak
1 Little Wood Satyr
1 White Admiral
1 Silver-Spotted Skipper
2 Edwards' Hairstreaks
Many thanks to Marj Watson for maintaining the above list!
