Public API key invalid?

I am trying to make API calls using public API key I got from this location: http://realtime.mbta.com/Portal/Content/Download/APIKey.txt

But I keep getting the 401 unauthorized with invalid key error.

or am I doing something incorrect here?

The public key is shared and intended as a way to get started. If someone makes a high volume of calls using it it'll get "used up" for the day. We recommend people move to their own key as soon as they can.
