Mapmaker in Brazil - An update from the Mapmaker team

Dear Brazil Map Makers,

First of all, a big thank you for sharing your local knowledge with us through Google Map Maker. We’re excited to see you improving the map of Brazil! As many of you have noted, the mapping contributions made in Brazil have yet to be shown on Google Maps. The reason for this delay is due to the technical challenges involved with combining your Map Maker contributions with the additional data we need to produce the best most comprehensive map of Brazil for all users of Google Maps.

Starting today the Google Maps and Map Maker teams will be working together building an entirely new map of Brazil, incorporating your existing mapping contributions. Once launched, Brazil will finally join the 147 countries and 43 territories where Map Maker edits flow into Google Maps, Google Maps for Mobile and Google Earth!

To accomplish this, Map Maker will be temporarily unavailable for editing in Brazil. During this period, your edit history will not display previous contributions to the map of Brazil, though your total edit count will not change. In the meantime, we encourage you to continue mapping in other countries and regions that you care about. We appreciate the valuable contributions you have made to Google Map Maker, and thank you for your perseverance. Together we want to make the maps of Brazil among the best in the world.

Como muitos já devem ter notado, as contribuições de mapeamento feitas no Brasil ainda não foram exibidas no Google Maps. O motivo dessa demora deve-se aos desafios técnicos de combinar as contribuições no Map Maker com outros dados necessários para produzir o melhor e mais abrangente mapa do Brasil para todos aqueles que utilizam o Google Maps.

A partir de hoje, as equipes do Google Maps e do Map Maker trabalharão juntas para criar um mapa inteiramente novo do Brasil, incorporando contribuições de mapeamento existentes. Uma vez lançado, o Brasil finalmente se unirá a outros 147 países e 43 territórios, onde as edições feitas no Map Maker migram para o Google Maps, Google Maps para celulares e Google Earth.

Para realizar esta tarefa, o Map Maker ficará temporariamente indisponível para edições feitas no Brasil. Durante este período, seu histórico de edições não exibirá contribuições anteriores ao mapa do Brasil, apesar de não alterar a contagem total de edições. Enquanto isso, recomendamos que continuem a mapear outros países e regiões que consideram importantes. Agradecemos sua perseverança e as valiosas contribuições feitas no Google Map Maker. Juntos, queremos fazer com que os mapas do Brasil estejam entre os melhores do mundo.
