Hi.  I'm new to makerspace.  I do wood-based multi-media sculpture, using cnc, laminating, and power-carving.  Is there someone around to brief me on using the cnc?  I'm flexible and could come in whenever.

Also, if there is enough interest out there, I could do a workshop on power-carving sometime.

Cheers!
Mike

Hi Mike,

Vince or Andrew are your best bets. I think the primary hangup at this point is getting the software toolchain worked out then we need to get some courseware created, but of course neither of those should prevent you getting in and using it.

Thanks!

Derek

Mike,

We are currently pretty tense about letting anyone use the CNC without direct supervision. First off its still at some level under construction, it has absolutely no safeties, no limit switches, no guards. Essentially this machine can/wants to kill you and it will hurt the whole time your are dieing.  Not only that you can easily kill the machine due to its power and the lack of things to keep it from doing moves that can damage it.

you will also need to supply your own cutters, currently we have a single 5/16 tool holder.

Best bet is to catch me on a tues or thurs and i'll help you set up your project and supervise your use of the machine.

Cheers
Vince.
