The Fire Marshal is requiring Makers to:

Remove all propane tanks from the building.
Discontinue all smelting operations and clean up materials
Discontinue all welding inside of the Building.

Any particular reason why?

I'm gonna go with fire hazard. Just my opinion...

I was told it's because the building has no sprinkler or other fire suppression system.
The building is owned by the City of Shaker Heights. We have to play by their rules or relocate.

And yes, they consider Plasma Cutting to be a welding operation.

That makes sense, our facilities aren't up to the task.  We don't have enough ventilation for welding in any case even if we did have suitable sprinklers.

The Fire Marshal probably wasn't too happy about the mountains of accumulated cruft either.  I'm trying to scrape up a plan to deal with that problem, please give https://groups.google.com/d/msg/makersalliance/z0VvQHjTDCg/bEhD2CxD6YgJ a scan and respond.  (I'm sorry about being insistent, but we shouldn't let our workspace turn into RAM Electronics.)

Here is an interesting article about a guy who inadvertently made and inhaled a small puff of phosgene gas while welding by using brake cleaner to prep the metal, and damn near killed himself:

I'm guilty myself of welding inside. Probably time to stop doing it - for real.

I have a copy of the violation report. I am currently working to address these issues.

I had changed the plug on the air compressor to match the L6-30 receptacle in the brewing area. I have an L6-30R we can use to replace the receptacle by the box in the larger bay area so the plasma cutter and air compressor can use the same outlets and we can have them both going at once.

Please unplug the Plasma Cutter when you are done with it.

It's kinda hard to say we are not using it inside when we leave it setup.

In general it's probably a good idea to unplug things when you are done using them. Kids have open access to our space and tend to love to play with switches.
