We are having our weekly free and open to the public hours tomorrow night, officially starting at 7pm, but I’ll likely be at the space by 6 (traffic permitting). For those coming by for the first time, the address is 3558 Lee Road, Shaker Heights 44120 (aka ’The Dealership’). Park in the north lot, and come all the way around to the very back of the building. You’ll pass through the Tunnel Vision Hoops area to get to our area.

Agenda:
-Do some more work on the new vinyl cutter!
--Install software (there’s a licensed program that can only go on one computer, and another that can run on all of them, but maybe isn’t quite as good…)
—-Try to cut out something other than the default star it comes with

-Continue printing the RepRap Snappy
—-we’re now up to about 15% of the parts printed (almost all have taken 5-10 hours to print each, so it’s been slow going…)
—-Do you have a 3D printer and want to help? Check out the progress spreadsheet here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jwSLDXKn8Jsij83Uw-GTa3-WKPTkHxfuVk4eCaoVHxo/edit?usp=sharing

-Maybe start on a few of the tasks for Friday’s Makerspace Maintenance event? (http://wiki.makersalliance.org/doku.php?id=todo)
-if you’re new to the list, some details on the event are here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1969378166663749/

-And as always, feel free to bring a project to work on, get help with and/or show off!

See you there tomorrow and/or Friday!

Sam et al,

re: 3D parts

I'm new to the list.

Would using the resources at CPL's TechCentral or CWRU's [think]box help speed things along?

Or are you staying "in house", true DIY independent from ground up approach?

You get me the designs and the cost of material and I can run around a bit to help supplement work.

I got my plate full, but I have a large appetite. ;)

Got yo' back...

Regards,

Damon

Welcome back Damon! ;-)

Thinkbox’s printers are prohibitively expensive to use- at least the fancy ones are. Their low end printers are apparently 15 cents per gram of filament, and CPL’s are the bargain rate of 5 cents per gram. For reference, the part we’re currently printing (the “XY Sled”, of which it uses four) is approximately 77 grams each according to the estimate in my slicing software.

I am kind of trying to do this with the DIY/crowdsourced approach. I figure there are probably some folks on the list with printers at home that might want to help with my crazy quest...

We can get the parts done on our Prusa i3 clone, it’s just taking a while. Once we get through the really big parts, we’ll probably be able to do a bunch of smaller stuff all at once.

I’m also working on getting our MP Select Mini back to operational status, but it’s taking time. The replacement of its dead electronics with a RAMPS setup was successful. It did print a lego keychain the other day, but I’m thinking its extruder has issues, because anything more complicated than a lego isn’t working very well. I’m going to try swapping out the nozzle, and if that doesn’t work I’ll replace the heatbreak tube. If that doesn’t work, I’ll replace the whole extruder...

Anyone want to try to get either of our old Mendel Prusas running again?(mostly kidding- they’re beyond all hope…) Or help turn our old Stratasys XY stage into a printer? We’ve got most of the parts we would need- we just need some people with the drive to make it happen.

Honestly, I am probably not the best choice for that ... my focus tends to wander. If I am there and you need a hand, I will help.

I can work on the Prusa again, It was pretty darn close the last time when the extruder head decided to clog. Now that we have spare heads, it may very well function again.

I will also be bringing in some donation vacuum cleaners to the space, hopefully one can be used to run the sandblasting cabinet.

Hey all,

I live off E 200th on Monterey in Euclid. Is there anyone going tonight that can come pick me up beforehand and take me along as "baggage" with them tonight? ;)

My truck is undergoing maintenance and I have no ride for the next couple days. (DIY brake lines, calipers, pads, leaf spring, body work, etc.; got help over time with that)

Will help pay gas $.

Regards,

Damon
