Just found out that we need to get our application in this week for the Shaker Heights Memorial Day parade.

Unfortunately, I can't fill it out since the first thing it asks for is a contact person. We don't have one who will be in town for the event.

Most of the people who normally volunteer to work at Makers Alliance events will be out of town that weekend, and sorry, but I'm not cancelling my flipping vacation so we can cover this for the organization. Hell, I'm not even really a "Maker" and I work all these events.

So all I can think of is to tell the city that even though we committed to it, we won't be able to participate. This and the Shaker Maker event were intended to go a long way toward earning some goodwill from the city - our landlords. Along with raising awareness about our group and maybe getting some new participants and members. Oh well.

(But it's not like we're going to earn any goodwill points anyway, since we can't even manage to get people to clear out their own junk -like dead Subarus and barrels of oil and random equipment...)

Whatever.

I think it's a good idea to cancel the parade. We only have like 5 people in our group right now.

I dont see what we have to offer a memorial day parade.  We have no float.  Most of our interesting stuff is stationary. Just a bad fit in my view.  If we had 6 months 30 people and funding maybe we could muster a float or some interesting vehicle. We could use the Subaru!

Karlzdad -

Actually, a lot of that was in place. For a float, we had the bathtub art car and we had funding from Shaker to get that up and running. We were going to make the kazoos for a kazoo marching band and the mobiles were to be be carried in the parade. It was going to be a marching group along with the art car. All the Shaker people we met with really liked it and we were going to get grants. Part of it was also to get members of the local community to participate by playing kazoos and carrying the mobiles, since we don't really have that many Makers. Unfortunately, Bob, Matt, Steph, Sam and I are all going to be out of town that weekend, so we just don't have anyone who can take point on it. It's actually pretty embarrassing for us, since I now have to tell Shaker Heights that we have to renege on the commitment we made to them. I don't know how it's going to affect the grant they were going to give us for the Shaker Maker event or the impact of us looking like a bunch of idiots. Again. And we STILL have that effing Subaru sitting outside. Classy. At this point, I totally understand why Shaker has no faith in us.

There are more than 5 members of Makers Alliance.

As I said above, we were hoping to get members of the Shaker Heights community to march with us in the parade. When they helped make the kazoos and mobiles, we were going to invite them to march with us.

But....it does not matter now. I've already told Paula from Shaker Heights that we won't be in the parade. So that's cancelled.

If anyone wants to help with the Shaker Maker event on April 22nd, fantastic. If not, the people that cover all the community events will take care of it.
