Hi all,
A moderate flight passed over and through Sandy Point Beach, Cousin's Island, Yarmouth this morning. A steady trickle (despite a fairly high flight on the light wind) allowed for a high rate of identification, but a hunting Merlin wreaked havoc on crossing birds, and made keeping track of individual counts a little challenging.

It is alway interesting to compare what we get in the nets in West Falmouth with the Sandy Point birds.

In Falmouth, it was all about the sparrows today. (As Derrick noted a bit ago, sparrows tend not to do that morning reorienting flight that makes Sandy Point so busy, but somewhat shorter on sparrows.)

15 New Swamp Sparrows
11 White-throated Sparrows
10 Song Sparrows
 2 White-crowned Sparrows

Other "fun" birds included a first of the season Eastern Bluebird and Yellow-bellied Sapsucker.  Three Eastern Phoebes were also nice to have.

With more mature trees, we often miss the high foraging birds. Winds last week pushed many of these lower. Friday and Saturday were all about Ruby-crowned Kinglets.
