Version 2.65 is right around the corner and I wanted to discuss some changes to the delete functionality as some of you may be confused by the changes:

When you delete a message using MailDroid, we have two options:
  • Delete message on device and on server
  • Delete message on device only (keeping the message on server and not syncing the delete)
In previous versions this was controlled by this one setting:

Accounts Preferences > BASIC SETTINGS > Delete Sync Options
[x] When removed on Device delete on Server
This was an account wide setting, but in the new version, MD allows more granular control. With 2.65 and on, by default when you click the Trash button it will prompt you with two options:
  •   Device: delete on device only
  •   Device & Server: delete on device and server
Basically, you have the same control on how the mails are removed, but you can decide this per message as opposed to globally per inbox.

If you don't like this new mode, you can always return to the old way of doing things. Just go to Preferences > EMAIL SETTINGS > Prompt for delete options and here you can toggle on/off the delete prompt.

Notice, that delete options are shown only for INBOX and Offline folders. Online folder, and special folders (Drafts, Outbox, etc) won't have this feature at this time.

As a general reminder:
  • Confirm Delete (Preferences > EMAIL SETTINGS): This is an option that has existed for a while and is a basic prompt that will pop up asking you 'are you sure you want to delete'. Nothing has changed with this functionality. This functionality spans across your inbox and any folders you may want to delete from.
  •  [x] When removed on Server delete on Device (Accounts Preferences > BASIC SETTINGS > Delete Sync Options): This functionality has not changed and still spans across the account
  • IMAP: Due to the way IMAP works, delete is instantaneous to the server
  • POP3: Due to the way POP3 works, delete is on a queue and will only delete the next time MailDroid speaks to your POP3 server
  • Pending Delete: This is an in-between folder (like the outbox) and remains here in case there was an issue connecting to the server for a time
