Forwarding this message from the good folks at DaneNet, who are doing a very nice thing on Monday. They need more volunteers. If you have the day off consider coming over with me to help do this!

Eric

Hello DANEnet Volunteers,

On Jan. 19th, 2015 (MLK Day), DANEnet will host the ninth annual IT Day of Service. And this year we're doing things a little different. Inspired by other coding events around the world, DANEnet decided to host a Raspberry Pi event where volunteers will build useful appliances for local non-profits.

For those who are new to it, the Raspberry Pi is a credit card-sized single-board computer. Its very affordable (just $35 for the board) and extremely customizable. Everything from home automation to server appliances to robotics are all possible with this tiny PC.

Volunteers will spend the day working in teams building one of the predetermined Raspberry Pi appliances which include:

- remote temperature monitor for a server room

- digital signage

- IP surveillance camera

- two-factor authentication server

No prior coding experience or tools required. Volunteers are encourage to bring a laptop if they have one. An SD card reader would be helpful too. DANEnet will supply all necessary parts plus internet access to download software and test your appliance.

Please meet at the CSCI building, located at 517 N. Segoe Rd. at 9:30am for coffee and bagels before you get to work on your appliance.

Simply send me an email so I know your coming (no need to signup and list your skills) Thank you for volunteering your time. Contact me with any questions.
