Hey maddotnet-ers!  My company, SA Ignite (http://www.saignite.com/), is looking to fill a full-time web developer position on our team.

Check out the attached job description for a little "official" background about the company and position.  I've worked here since the first of the year and it's personally been a great improvement over my last job.  Here are the things that I think are really great about my experience here so far:
  • I work from home on a schedule I set.  This has freed me up to be able to do lots of things I was missing out on when I was at my last job, particularly as it relates to my kids' events.
  • Everyone on the team is sharp as a tack.  There are no slackers (or egos) here.
  • We're currently using .net 4 / vs2010 and will be updating to 4.5 / vs2012 shortly.  The stack is mostly webforms, but we're transitioning over to MVC4 as we build new functionality.
  • I wouldn't say we are a TDD shop, but I have been moving more and more to a test-first approach; the company has been very receptive to this.
  • We currently use TFS2010 for source control, work management, building and deploying.  Our release process has been automated, which makes things less stressful when it comes to release time.  It also makes is so that I'm not the only one who can do a release.
  • I have a tremendous amount of input on our approach for building out our products.
  • I generally don't have to work with customers.  We have account reps that handle most of this... I'll occasionally be pulled in to talk to technical people on the customer's side of things but that's only happened a couple times since I've been here over the past 10 months.
  • We get together for face-to-face meetings in Chicago every couple months... this is usually a couple days where we can sit down, do some planning, hash through issues, and then go out for beers.
  • Salary is competitive with other companies.  There is still a pool of stock options available for people who get in now however that isn't going to last long.  You'd better get in fast!  :)
  • There isn't a vacation policy... if you want a day or week off, you take it.
  • I'd keep going, but I don't want to gush... email me if you're interested in talking further.
  • Personality is a very important trait in our candidates... we have a pretty laid-back culture and the engineering team grooves really well.  We want to keep it that way.
Here's where we stack up on The Joel Test (9/12):

  1. Do you use source control? Yes
  2. Can you make a build in one step? Yes
  3. Do you make daily builds? Yes
  4. Do you have a bug database? Yes
  5. Do you fix bugs before writing new code? No (sometimes we do, sometimes we don't... depends on the severity of the bug.  Part of this is due to the fact that the initial product was a "get to market as fast as we can" sort of thing).
  6. Do you have an up-to-date schedule? Yes
  7. Do you have a spec? No (unfortunately the requirements are rather loose when we get them; a lot of times it's either a sketch, spreadsheet or powerpoint mock-up)
  8. Do programmers have quiet working conditions? Yes (if your house is quiet)
  9. Do you use the best tools money can buy? Yes
  10. Do you have testers? Yes
  11. Do new candidates write code during their interview? No (we're moving to this soon, but as it stands right now, we do not do this)
  12. Do you do hallway usability testing? Yes
If you're interested, please send me your resume and I can put you in touch with the appropriate folks over here.

Thanks,
Phil
